This is a Synthetic Polyether Open-Cell Foam with a 3M peelable adhesive.

Our Foam Seal

We use open cell foam to seal our doors.  Most factory open cell foam is a polyester based foam that is biodegradable, which is why it comes apart and blows out of the vents.  Our foam is a synthetic polyether based foam that is not biodegradable and therefore will not deteriorate like the original foam. A common question that we get here is “Why don’t you use closed cell foam like the other guys?” The simple answer is, we’d love to, but we have yet to find closed cell foam that will perform satisfactorily in an HVAC box. There are a few requirements that foam must meet in order to be acceptable for use on our replacement doors:

  • The durometer or “squishiness” of the foam must be soft enough to sufficiently seal the box. The plastic housings have a very loose tolerance for what can be considered “flat.” We’ve had boxes here that have had as much as 1/4 inch gap on the sealing surface when the door was closed.  The foam must be able to compress completely on the high side in order fully seal on the low side. Most closed cell foams are too hard to seal properly.
  • The foam must be durable enough to withstand the extreme heat and extreme cold that an automobile will experience. The air conditioner evaporator will produce air temperature around 40 degrees F and the heater will produce around 200 degrees F. Don’t forget the interior temp when the car sits outside in the summer sun all day in Arizona or all night in a North Dakota winter. Very few types of foam can withstand this kind of abuse.
  • The foam must be American made.  We pride ourselves with an American made product produced by American workers.  We will not lower our standards by using a cheaper foreign made foam to increase our profit.

We are continuously testing new types of foam in order to provide you with the highest quality products available.  If we ever find closed cell foam that meets all of these requirements, we will start using it to seal our doors.  So far, every type of closed cell foam we have tested has failed on one or more of the requirements. The open cell foam we currently use passes all of these tests and will not deteriorate like the OEM foam does.  You will not be disappointed in the performance of our products.

Worked well on my 98 Tacoma

This foam worked great for my 1998 Toyota Tacoma Heater Core and Evaporator boxes. Very sticky, adhered incredibly well but soft enough to seal easily. I would agree its the best overall foam for this application after searching and buying A LOT of foam and foam tapes. I'm certain you can get foam that will flex and mold a little better but not foam that will hold up as long and be as strong as to allow cutting and trimming after applied without it ripping to pieces. So overall this is your best bet and I'mhappy with it. I do wish they gave you a little more though, I wasted none and BARELY got my AC gates and doors re-foamed with the amount they sell in this pack. 2 more pieces would give a comfortable buffer in case you lose a piece when first using it and trying to work out the best way to apply the pieces to very large gates/doors too large for a single piece to cover and require a paneling approach. Perhaps that amount is good for the dodge or chevy or whatever Diesels they focus on but its cutting it close for other vehicles and I would have been very unhappy if I had to place another order at full price just for 1 piece, so just throw in one or two more pieces is what I would do and label it as a kit for "all other vehicles." I am glad you guys are around! Saved me a lot of pain and suffering trying to rig together something on my own with foam and spray glue and some other shoddy approach on my own, for that I am grateful!

Thank you for your feedback we are looking into multiple foam options in the future. Glad it worked for you and check back in the future for more options.

      Polyether Open-Cell Foam

The foam was perfect for my collector car blend doors. It was easy to use and cut, and the 3M adhesive backing is strong. Once it was applied, it didn't come off. I will use this foam on other projects.

Glad to hear our product fits your needs, and that you will continue to use our foam. Thank you for your buisness

      Perfect solution

Best material I could find to fix my blend doors. Shame there isn’t a kit specifically for mk4 generation VWs but with a little improvisation my heat and AC work like new again! Definitely worth the investment.

Sheet Foam and Blend Door Driver

Foam sheets were perfect for use in resealing my entire 99 Ram heater box assembly. Easy to cut with scissors and apply. Great adhesion with the peel and stick backing. Aluminium Blend Door Driver is a great alternative to the plastic ones.
